What an awful way to kick things off!

According to reports, a knife-wielding Chinese man attacked two relatives of a coach for the U.S. Olympic men’s volleyball team and their Chinese tour guide at a tourist site in Beijing on Saturday, the first day of Olympics competition.

One of the victims was killed and one was injured in what’s being called a random act of violence.

The attacker then committed suicide by throwing himself from the second story of the tourist attraction, three miles from the main Olympics site.

The midday attack was all the more shocking because of the rarity of violent crime against foreigners in ‘tightly controlled China’, which has pumped up security measures even more for the Games.
